Carpenter’s Shelter - Carpenter’s Cook-Off
I had the pleasure this afternoon of being the volunteer photographer for the Carpenter’s Shelter - Carpenter’s Cook-Off here in Northern Virginia. It’s a really wonderful organization and all of their volunteers are such great people. I was able to tour the facility a few months back and it’s just a great place. I’m grateful there is somewhere like that in the area to help our neighbors who need some support.
The event was held at The Birchmere, a local music venue. The volunteers showed up at 8am to start setting up for the event which had 20 of the best restaurants in the area showcasing some of their food. The money raised went to the shelter and there was also a special auction to raise money to send the children of the shelter to a camp this summer. The Melonheads played and gave a great energy to the event.
This was a challenging event not because of the subject matter (which was people and great food) but because of the lighting at the venue. Only the corners had spotlights and the main area of the floor, which were where most of the vendors and party-goers were spending their time, was very poorly lit.
I brought my tri-pod (thank goodness or I couldn’t have gotten ANY pictures - it was that dark!) and did my best. There was an incredible face painter - she did some great work! I gave the parents my card so if they contact me for pictures of their little ones I’ll ask them if I can post a few. She was an amazing artist!
Anyway, it was a great experience and thank you to the Carpenter’s Shelter for allowing me this opportunity! I look forward to going through the pictures so I can post some for you!
Happy Sunday everyone!
